tabi is a time and billing system. It began life as Seahorse, our time and billing system at Cortex, and at Cortex we really don’t like tedium, and let’s be honest, timesheets and invoices are a ballache and tedious at the best of times. No-one likes filling them in, and invoicing runs can also be time-consuming affairs needing a time category all of their own. We created Seahorse with a clear mission: to create a time-efficient and painless solution.

At one of our weekly ‘bacon Friday’ © sessions, we were bouncing around ideas on what we were going to do next and Jase asked why we hadn’t done more with Seahorse. This kickstarted a project to make the system multi-tennanted and pimp up the UI. We also took the opportunity to streamline interactions even further, ultimately giving birth to tabi! (thankfully not taking a full 9 months cook!!!)

tabi has evolved into a remarkably comprehensive system (we geeks always find room for more ideas), and it is already benefiting local businesses. But that’s not all - we’re now gearing up for the super-secret next phase, propelling tabi to the next stage. Stay tuned for the exciting journey ahead!

Features

It has a bucket load of features that you can read more about on the tabi site.

As the owner/founder of a business using tabi, my favourite, well, most appreciated features are:

  • Efficient - the team can capture time quickly. Lots of little things add up to a lot. Being able to replicate time entries, flood fill for the month, buttons to access the frequently used clients and projects.
  • Flexibility - being able to configure different rates depending on the person, project, client or even individual time entry. It’s also proven to cater for the multitude of different formats our clients want for their invoices. tabi can provide a fully detailed, itemised breakdown, figures rolled up by person or by category or by project, or any combination thereof.
  • Business Intelligence - tabi’s comprehensive data allows businesses to analyse trends, identify bottlenecks at a project or resource forecasting level, and also gain insights into profitability, facilitating strategic decision-making and growth.
